With a sincere thank you, I would like to congratulate everyone on a successful Grade 3 year. The kids have grown and changed so much, it has been a pleasure to teach each and every one of them. May you enjoy your summer with your children and keep practicing important literacy and numeracy skills. Goodbye for now!
This morning the students experimented with making 3D objects out of spaghetti, toothpicks, and marshmallows. They used some creativity and problem solving skills to find new designs and objects. Today the students problem solved to make a model of a 3D object. The difficulty arose not in making the model into a 3D object, rather when they needed to flatten it and label it in order to put it in their visual journal. It was fun to see the kids problem solve and persevere. Some kids also chose to make an object different from the example, which was a triangular pyramid. We also worked on writing some riddles for 2D Shapes and 3D Objects, We are so thankful the weather turned out to be just lovely for the annual Rideau Park Sports Day. The kids had a great time at Canadian themed stations with students in Grade K-6. This afternoon the kids were excited about the 'Ultimate Summer Challenge' presentation provided by the Calgary Public Library. They saw a bunch of fun books to read and learned about how to enter the program. They are also anticipating the prizes being offered- one being spending the night at the library- just like our class novel, 'Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library'. How awesome! Kids can enter at the library or visit
https://calgarylibrary.ca/ultimate-summer-challenge/ Today we discussed what adaptation means. The students worked with a partner to do some research and exploration. Then they wrote a cool fact on a post-it. The students then worked in their visual journals to find an example of an adaptation for each classification of animals. Ask your child something they learned today!
