Today we discussed the concept of global citizenship. First we brainstormed about this image- how it makes us feel, what we see, what it might represent. Then we talked about what it means to be a global citizen- countries helping one another. The students were given the task of representing their own idea of how to be a global citizen in their visual journals.
We have started to discuss the concept of perimeter. Students have created a variety of shapes with some different materials. Today students worked to use different units to find the total perimeter of a given shape.
We are so super excited to have caterpillars in our classroom! We have enjoyed watching them grow already and observe the different phases of their life cycle.
We have been working diligently on reading analog clocks and noticing patterns within the clock, On Wednesday, students created their own analog clock models and ensured they counted by 5 and followed the pattern. We have also been relating fractions to the clock and how a half an hour is 30 minutes, half of 60, but also half of the clock itself. We have been spending lots of time reading traditional and fractured fairy tales and the kids even got to write their own stories!
This morning the students created ice cream sundaes! They used paper to make a fraction sundae. They needed to write their flavours on a post-it note, and then create as many scoops as they wanted of each kind. They arranged them and wrote the fraction for each flavour on the bowl. |
